Voice of Youth

Rostrum Voice of Youth – The Next Generation of Communicators

Rostrum is not just for adults. Rostrum has contributed to the welfare and personal growth of Australia’s youth by organising and facilitating Australia’s Premier National Youth speaking competition since 1975.

The Rostrum Voice of Youth Competition is a National competition with participants from all States competing in individual heats with cash prizes available. State winners also win a trip to the hosting State capital to perform and compete in the National Finals.

Competition Details and Eligibility

The Competition is open to Secondary School students who meet the age requirements.

The competition is divided into Junior and Senior Divisions.  Senior competitors deliver an 8 minute speech and Juniors present for 6 minutes.

  • Junior students must be at least 11 and under 15 years of age as of the 1st of January.
  • Senior students must be under 18 years of age as of the 1st of January.

All participants prepare and present a speech on one of the designated topics. Many Schools conduct their own competitions to determine the students who will enter their State heats.
